Bradley Stephens, Professor of French Literature at the University of Bristol and one of the world’s leading experts on Victor Hugo, gave a talk to a sold-out audience at the OGH on what Hugo had to tell us about war and peace. Hugo was at the heart of a politically tumultuous time in France during the nineteenth century and was involved first hand in violent clashes in Paris in 1848. He was always an advocate of peace, campaigned against injustice, and of course spent fifteen years in Guernsey because of his views.
