Guernsey welcomed a number of academics in the summer of 2024 to speak at the Victor Hugo in Guernsey Society conference, travelling from the UK, France and America.

For more than two decades, Lisa VanDamme, founder of the VanDamme Academy in California, has been teaching the works of Hugo to teenagers.

VanDamme said that Hugo's influence has been able to reach global masses due to one thing - his spirit of humanity.
